Practical questions
Painful, hot, swollen skin: do not wait for a photo diagnosis
Painful, hot and swollen skin needs prompt clinical advice. Cellulitis is one possible cause, but a photograph alone cannot distinguish every infection or other condition. Rapid deterioration, severe illness or concerning symptoms around an eye may require urgent or emergency assessment rather than a routine home-visit slot.

Explain progression and relevant health history
Say when the area changed, how pain or swelling is progressing, and whether there is fever, a wound or recent procedure. Mention diabetes, immune-suppressing treatment and relevant allergies or medicines. Redness can be less obvious on darker skin; warmth, swelling, pain and how unwell you feel still matter.

Let assessment determine care and treatment
Do not drain, squeeze or aggressively massage a painful swelling, and do not start a leftover antibiotic or someone else’s cream. Ask whether an examination at home is appropriate or whether the concern needs a clinic or hospital. A named diagnosis in an old report does not establish that the new episode has the same cause.

Agree when worsening needs earlier help
If treatment is prescribed, follow the individual instructions and ask when improvement should be reviewed. Do not wait through serious deterioration because a review is already booked. Confusion, faintness, rapid breathing or other severe systemic symptoms require urgent help; use 998 for a suspected emergency in the UAE.

Common questions
Can a skin photograph rule out every serious cause?
No. An appropriate examination may be needed.
Does cellulitis always look bright red?
No. Colour changes may be less obvious on darker skin.
Should deterioration wait for a scheduled review?
No. Seek earlier urgent or emergency assessment as appropriate.
Sources and information limits

Enquire about the next steps and availability. An enquiry does not confirm a booking or diagnosis and is not an emergency service.
